Front pump seal (I think)

So today I drove my old 1989 f150 to work. After sitting on the pavement for about 3 hours, I noticed that there was about 3 quarter sized spots under the truck. I identified it as transmission fluid, and found the leak. The tranny fluid is comming from the bottom of the bell housing. I am thinking that it is a front pump seal, but am not for certain. The truck has a c6 transmission. So I was wondering if it would be worth my trouble to pull the trans and fix this leak, or if I should just keep dumping tranny fluid in it and be happy for now? What else should I look at replacing if I pull the tranny?

How much do you drive the truck? A seal could have just hardend maybe just needs to have some more miles put on????

Its ok to have a older truck have a leak or two, mine do rear main, diff seals.... just make sure its not pouring out when you drive. and keep fludit in it, I wouldnt drop the tranny just yet..

Generally this truck only gets driven in the winter and when I need the 4x4. So it doesn't see very many miles. I drove it about 30 miles yesterday and it is still leaking. I am going to put another 30 miles or so on it today, and probably every day for the rest of the week. I guess I will see if the leak persists, or if it seals itself up. As long as the fluid isn't pouring out I don't think I am going to be too worried about it.

This is a good strategy, IMO.
