I plan on doing some basic bolt-ons to my '00 2wd 5.4L Exppy. What I would like to know is if anyone has either conducted or seen dyno charts for the results of a catback system, headers, ignition, plugs/wires, new airfilter/intake, MAF sensor, or chip.
Can anybody validate Superchips claim of a 49 lb-ft increase in torque???
I would like to modify it in the most cost effective way possible, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
I would be real leary of the chip claim. I have seen the tests run online several places, and the numbers look good. But talking to people that actually purchased and installed these chips. They tell me that they make a marginal difference and you have to run premium fuel. Go price some of that stuff.... Anyways I opted for the JBA Stainless headers instead. I'll let you know how they work when I get them installed. Also plan to add a K&N MAF Sensor and the hi flow kit. I have read where several people have put on a cat back system and noticed and increase in the noise level. But no other difference.
i too am looking for info on proof BEFORE purchase. i drove another expy with the gibson single side exhast and found it as quiet as stock. good torque gains for towing. the down side was that the non stainless ones rust out in two years, the design hits the hitch at the back and must be shortened and a weight needs to be cut off the stock exhaust and welded onto the gibson to prevent a bad harmonic noise at cruise. let me know what you find out.

I also own a 00 Expy, 2WD, 5.4L, 3.55 LS rearend, towing package. After thorough testing, I have installed a Diablo chip, K&N Air Filter, modified the air intake, and installed a Flowmaster big-block series muffler. After all imporovement to my Expy, the mileage is now 18.4 mpg at 75mph, highway driving with the AC on. The added mileage more than pays the .20 per gallon difference on Premium fuel. I am completely satisfied with the performance and noise level of the exhaust. The big-block series is the quietest muffler that Flowmaster makes.
The air intake can be modified for $0.00, not a bad price. The K&N was &49.95 at AutoZone. The Muffler was $139.95 installed. I opted for the muffler only change versus the cat-back because you can only flow as much exhaust as will go through the Y after the cats. Why install a 3" exhaust sustem after the 2 3/4" Y, you will not increase the flow. Simply change the factory restrictive muffler to a freer flowing, less expensive muffler. The noise level of the Flowmaster is very low until full throttle. Then you get a nice throaty rumble until you let up on the accelerator, then silence again.
As for the chips, try the online site here. Ken sells Diablo and Superchips. I have not Dynoed either, but, can attest to performance gains with both. The transmission shifts much crisper and there is some improvement in fuel mileage. Both brands here come with a 6 month satisfaction guarantee and a lifetime product warranty. You will surely be able to feel a difference within 6 months. Do all of the other mods first, the intake, the exhaust, and the K&N, then try a chip. Feel free to call me for info on the intake mods. The intake mods are free and so is the help.
Thanks
