Clearance light problem

Hey, I have a 1986 F250 4x4 Diesel 4 speed regular cab. A year ago my motor lost oil pressure and I parked it until last month when I motor swapped it. Everything works just as usual accept the cab clearance lights dont work now. All the other lights work fine and no fuses are blown. I cant figure out why sitting for a year would make the cab lights not work.
Has anyone else had this issue? Where are the wires ran up to the top of the cab. How would I go about re-wiring the cab lights to work again?

Sounds like a rust or ground issue.

The plug for the clearance lamps is down behind the left kick panel in the cab.

Did you reinstall the engine to firewall ground cable so the cab will still have a solid ground. When engine work is done this is often overlooked and can cause weird problems. The clearance lamps ground directly to the cab roof, through the firewall to the ground cable to the engine, then from the engine to the battery negative post.

I think you are wrong

IIRC the power plug for the cab light is down behind the left kick panel as you stated. But the ground for the cab lights is there as well.It is an eyelet that get grounded to the cab.

As for the lights not working, i would pull one loose and see if there is power. Those 194 bulbs crap out all the time, yes even all 5 at one time

Well when I put the new motor in I was sure to have all the grounds hooked up right and with clean surfaces to ground to. I did hook both grounds to the back of the motor as it was prior. I have pulled one of the bulbs out and checked that it works and it does. Im going to try a new headlight switch because the dash lights are much more dim on the highest setting than they were before. so maybe the switch is getting finickey. I will check the harness coming down first.

You are Correct. Ground #909. The eyelit is directly behind the left kick panel.

However this ground still requires the firewall to engine ground, then engine to battery ground to function correctly.

I'm concerned that his dash lights are also dimmer since the engine replacement. This circut uses the same ground cable, Firewall to engine to ground properly. Infact all cab functions are grounded through this cable. Firewall to engine. It's possible that the cable was damaged when you did the swap. I'd check the resistance of the cables with an ohm meter, starting with the firewall to engine ground.

You are welcome.

Headlamp switches do not usually fail like that, so it wasn't the obvious first choice.

Thanks for posting the info about and the fix to your specific problem.
