My wife and I are thinking about buying a camper/trailer and need a HD truck to pull it.
Long story short - I located an F-350 w/SuperCab and a 'work box' (like electrical contractor's box, or 'heavy rescue truck' with compartments, etc.) on the back, instead of a bed, for less than $8,000.00
(Don't know the year, just spotted it on the road, this morning.)
Anyway, this looks like a fairly new truck.
From what I can tell, it is a 'dually' and is in decent shape.
No dents, dings, scrapes, etc.
Is it possible to get a standard pick-up bed (from salvage yard/dealer, etc.) and fit on this type of truck, or, are the frames/wheelbase different???
the bed should bolt right on, they did make a long and a short dually bed but I doubt a utility truck would use a short bed. Im not sure if there is a difference between a 4x4 and a 4x2
Beds from many years (99-2008 IIRC) interchange easily. Matching paint would be harder.... connectors and taillights would be easy to change if needed, but, agian, IIRC, they stayed mostly the same from gen to gen....
Another option would be a flat bed that is available from many after market sources. In this area, it isn't uncommon to see used ones go for $400-$600.
From what I understand, there are some minor programming differences (and possibly a different turbo??) in the cab and chassis trucks, which is what that truck probably started out as. But the wheel base and frame should be the same. Finding a bed shouldn't be too difficult. Heck, an aftermarket one might suit you better.
