when they say they cant hear me, i usually just say yes you can and then start talking louder lol.
i hate to turn my truck on and off like that but if thats the price i have to pay then i dont care. its better than having a 6.7 where you cant even tell the damn thing is a diesel
I have to shut mine off at some drive-thrus. I shut it off when I stop at the bank every time because I can't hear myself think and the cute ladies there always are appreciative.
Unless you could fully encapsulate the engine in sound deadening material, the diesel shake, rattle n roll is going to be heard. The new 6.7 is supposed to be a bit more quiet but really the noise is just part of owning a diesel. The benefits far outweigh any drawbacks (what drawbacks!) in my opinion.
My 6.7 is so quiet, I NEVER shut 'er down at the drive through. Nearly as quiet as a gasser.
My ol' 7.3 was the whole different (shut er down) story though.
Turboback ur exhaust and it'll sound more like a damn jet turbine, and it usually drowns out some of the clacking engine noise haha. But either way, shutting it off is the only way to be courteous in a drive through with a 6.0. Just one of the many joys of being a Powerstroke owner
I only have a little experience workin a drive through, but the one that I was at would pick up ALOT. I definitely think a 6.0 would be too loud. Even an LMM or LBZ dmax would make it hard to hear over the engine, same goes for a 6.4 powerstroke, or a commorail 5.9 or a 6.7 cummins. A 6.0 powerstroke would make it nearly impossible to hear a voice over the engine.
My advice, coming from a fellow diesel owner, either turn off the truck when you are ordering, or just go inside. I imagine 6.7 powerstroke owners wouldn't have a problem with this, but its always going to make it harder to hear.
Never shut my 6.7L down either. It's quiet!
I usually pull forward a foot or two extra if possible and it helps with this engine.
I wish I could say I walk in more often but it's about 50/50.
I tried a drive-thu one time and damn near got stuck being its a crew-cab long bed dually. Like my wife says my truck doesn't bend. Being its a 95' 7.3 its pretty loud as well I couldn't imagine leaving it running while trying to talk with someone through a crappy speaker.
i just pull up to the window and get yelled at a little. my new 05 6.0 is not as loud as my 99 7.3 was. the 99 was a drive thru nightmare i had stacks and huge cb whips.

At least at the place I was at for a couple of months, a 6.0 would make it nearly impossible to hear over, but I bet every place is different.
I think its best to always turn it off. Yeah, there's a chance someones just bein a d-bag, but theres also the chance that they really can't hear and your being inconsiderate.
