Like this I mean. I did not give near that for my 3/4 ton and it is an identical truck. Mine does have 262 on the clock though and is a '93. Still runs freakin awesome though.

94' Ford F250 XLT 4x4 Turbo Diesel this one is like mine.

1986 Ford F-250 Lariat-Diesel-4x4 for an '86? REALLY?

I did not realize this. Is this normal or just my area?

John

Both ads are more than a month old so I'd say there are no buyers at those prices.

well about 6 years ago i paid 8k for mine and it had 140k on the ticker, but i knew the guy that had it since it was new and he bought to haul his horse trailer around but ended up sellin his horses and trailers and all and just used it as a daily driver

did i pay too much for it? probably... but it has never let me down once and has more than paid for itself over and over!

Not where I live, a year ago 2x4 N/A IDI's went for 4-5 k (When I was looking, and a Turbo IDI went for 7k), now a 4x4 Turbo IDI, with lift, and 35's tends to go for about 2.5k. :/
And for some reason a CC dually with a 460 (Want to do a body swap) goes for like 6k wtf?

you couldn't get half that for them here. around here everyone that works their truck seems to want gas motor, and everyone else wants new and shiney diesel to just drive around. don't get it.

I'm currently looking at a '94 turbo IDI 7.3, F-250 XLT fully loaded ext. cab. 4x2.

It has 200k miles on the clock, engine is really clean (no leaks) and there's next to no rust (frame very good, one rusty spot on cab).

How much it is worth, more or less, according to you guys? (The seller's asking price is firm, but seems very reasonable to me.)

Diesel trucks do keep their value pretty well around here... moreso than gas-powered ones, that's for sure.

they can yes.
those trucks for example.look at them.they appear to be well cared for.not really enough pics for either one,but well cared for trucks with no to little rust like that....well,it takes a lot of $ to get them back to that condition.
the first one looks like a real sharp, clean 4wd xlt.
i don't blame him for asking that.do i think he'll get it? perhaps,if he waits long enough.
it is kinda steep.you would really need to go look at it.

the second looks like a 2wd though?
see,he's been redoing this one,and likely has way more than that in it.
he likely won't find a buyer at that price.but again,he's gunna take a beating for the $ he has in it,so if you keep watching, you may see him post it again at a lower price.

i knew when i got mine and put $ into it,it would become "worthless" in terms of resale.id never try to get my $ back this way.
but i knew i could get it all back and many times over if i kept it for business use.
as a rule of thumb, old vehicles are a loss.they depreciate.
they are not like houses, and some people don't get it.

really, the small adds and couple pics, just are not enough to go on.however often you can narrow it down within a grand.

no matter the condition.i have never, and will never pay over KBB (classic hot rod aside) for any used vehicle.
used vehicles cost $$$$ to fix,and setup the way you need them.if you start at a loss, your already below where you want to be,before modifying.

and like 87crew says.location means a lot too.

there is a pretty easy way to see what a trucks worth.
basicly, look whats for sale, and write down the basics, and the price.
next hit ebay, and your local trade/swap mags.take close notice of what else for trucks there are, selling for the same $.
you'll see before too long,if they are on crack,or offering a fair sale.
spend a week doing this, and you'll know exactly what X number of dollars will buy you.
then you'll know if its worth it or not.
spend 2 weeks or more doing this, and not only will you not over pay,but you'll spot the deals (and stay away from the too good to be true ones.)

you need to remember, for example lets use my truck here:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/g...F250HDXLT.html
look at them mods and maintenance records.
clearly the owner (myself in this example) has no intentions on selling.
can you find such maintenance records (not online lol.i actually have all receipts) to prove those parts and maintenance has been done?
this will help get top dollar greatly!!! unfortunately, those who care enough to invest the maintenance of a old truck, like a new truck, are not the ones selling.
when they do,you want to know why.
(though i used my truck as an example for being well cared for.no.i do not think its worth anything to me in terms of "resale".i would take a loss if i sold it.)

Well that is trued F250. I paid 5 grand for mine. 2 years ago. It has made me money working it too. The only thing I have done is install the clutch and new gps since I have owned it. I have put about 800 in it since I have owned it. I am not counting regular maintenance like oil, fuel and air filters and tires. I can't really count the slave cylinder issue I had for a while. I got the replaced for free..LOL

location does mean alot. i picked up min in texas for 2k. i bought it just for the body to do a PSD swap, but the motor was strong. i drove it for 1,000 mi with just throwing a set of injectors in it. i thhink a new pump would have made it run like new.
this is what i brought home

and now

"Greatly"? Are you saying there's money to be made if I decide to take the truck somewhere else and sell it?

It's selling for $2,500. They're rare out here and usually more expensive than that. But the crewcab dually in the post just above for $2k looks like a better deal... did it have any known issues when you bought it?

not really, just a bunch of miles. i had to put injectors in it and i think the pump should have been changed. i drove it around dallas for a monthe, then home to new orleans with no issues. sold the engine and tranny ( the buyers are still happy). these trucks are tough

i read the first sentence and got offended! then i laughed, you caught me off gaurd. one of the best advantages to the powerstroke is being able to turn the smoke on or off. also, being a registered IDI... no emissions test...ever! best of both worlds!

hahaha i gotcha hey!
nah, anyone who researches a little can clearly see the first gen PSD'S where some great powerful, long lasting engines.
i was actually looking for the 7.3l powerstroke myself.i just saw this truck, and the bids stayed low,so i went for it(it was listed as "before powerstroke" or something like that,so i knew.)
never even heard of the IDI before that.

when i first got it about a year ago,i kept reading of complaints of lack of power here on FTE,and i thought i really messed up not getting the powerstroke.these guys really had me worried lol.
i don't even need a turbo for what i do.she goes great.
latter i figured out, most people where simply not keeping them tuned up,and of course mine being a little rare, with low miles and all.
but i drive like granny compared to most here too i think.
