I love the truck and everything about it, but I would like to see if I could get a some more torque out of it. As of now, I have a drop in K&N filter and cut the muffler and am running duals out the back. I am interested in getting new cams. I would like to get a set for better low and mid range torque. and then get custom tunes. Has anybody else messed with this before? What recommendations does anyone have?
Unless you doing all the work yourself , it would be about the same price to just put a used blower kit on it. And you would get better power out of a blower.
You could just put some 4.10s in the rear and that would help a lot.
I never noticed a loss of torque after cutting the muffler, I still have 4 cats on and am running 2.25 pipe. I will look at the crower cam, I found a couple low and mid range cams on Comp Cams site, but I will have to call them and see what they think. I will be doing all of the work myself, so I will only have to worry about the supplies cost. I am also looking to see if there are any head combos and have a new top end. Every part of the suspension and drivetrain has been redone recently, and the body is in good shape, so spending some money isn't won't concern me a lot since I'll have the vehicle for awhile.
comp offers some nice cams for the engines, for what you are describing i would recommend the TPX248HR-16. COMP Cams: 2 Valve
trick flow also offers cams and assembled heads that will get you some improvement, just be careful with big ports and durations. if you are looking for low end power the smaller port and short duration with minimal overlap is what you want to look for.
The easiest cam "upgrade" for your 4.6L is a set of stock cams from the PI engine. They have the same duration and LSA, but have more lift on both intake and exhaust. This extra lift will yield approx 10rwhp and 25ft-lbs gains over the stock NPI cams. They're a direct swap, with no changes needed at all, other than the cams themselves.

The valve springs are the same between PI and non PI?
From '96-present, the 2V springs are all the same.
The NPI has a slightly shorted installed height, but not enough to cause issues when swapping to those cams. The valve lift limits on NPI heads are approx .540" before you have stem seal to retainer contact. The PI cams are .510" intake and .530" exhaust vs .466" intake and exhaust on the NPI cams.
The earlier NPI heads (F1AE and F4AE castings) have a different spring that is not a beehive design like the '96-up springs, and those earlier heads cannot handle more than approx .500" lift without coil bind or retainer to stem seal contact.
