99 Expedition Mods

Hey guys, I'm getting a 99 Expedition next month. Its been in the family for the last few years and it is in very good shape. It has 4.6 with 150k on it. When I get it, I want to put dual exhaust on it and intake and eventually a programmer. Then at the end of the summer before I go back to school, I'm gonna put some BFG KM2s on her. I'm certain on the tires, intake, and the Edge Evolution programmer, but I'm not sure what I want to do with the exhaust. Just wondering what some of you guys have on your expys. I want something that sounds good even though it is a 4.6, but I don't want it to drone really bad in the cab. A little noise wont hurt cuz i'll already be getting some from the intake and tires. So if anybody has some good suggestions on an exhaust, please let me know.
Thanks Everybody

I have Flowmaster on mine. I have the 5.4 liter though, so Im not sure how it would sound on the 4.6. They make a good , low tone, and it is fairly quiet on the inside...just enough to hypnotize the kids to sleep...flows are good.

Thanks for the response Ben, I've been thinking about the flowmasters. What is your setup? true dual or single in dual out? What series do you have? and what size pipe did you run?
Thanks

Mine is all stock except the muffler, and Im not sure what series it is. It was all done already when I bought the truck. Otherwise, I would have taken off the cat (no emmision testing here in new mexico hehe) and ran true duals, probably 3 or 3 1/2 inch. It sounds pretty good as is, though

DONT REMOVE THE CATS!
I removed the main cats only to find i actully lost power and the engine light wont go off,yes i bought the o2 elems but it still does it.
Honestly i would put a flowmaster on and thats about it,just go over it and make sure its running tip-top,otherwise the maintance will cost you alot down the road, imo the 4.6 is WAY underpowered, please tell me you have a 2wd.I have a 5.4 and its barley enough and i cannot get past 10mpg to save my life!

Thanks for the replies guys. When I put an exhaust on it, I'm planning on keeping all four cats on, but I've been wondering if it would be worth it to gut them out. My plan after that is to keep the stock pipe on it until it Ys, and then either cut the Y off and run true duals out the back or run a Single in/Dual out muffler. The truck is 4X4, I dont plan on pulling anything with it, I'll just be using it as a daily driver and I just want something that sounds decent.

don't go with true duels you lose low end power and makes the truck feel like a dog

So it would be best to run a si/do muffler? What about gutting the cats?

Gotcha. Thanks for the info. What muffler has a deep tone, but not lots of drone inside the truck

cat back makes a crossover duell for the expies, they look great, and sound better, you can cut out the sides ot go to the back, posted to your tire thread on the other site, good choice, but if you plan to do any more do it before you spend all the money on the tires, for 500$ you can lift it 5 inches and run 35 inch tires, and be styleing

I DON'T LIKE FLOWMASTERS. THEY DRONE AND AS FAR AS PERFORMANCE MUFFLERS GO THEY ARE THE ONE OF THE WORST. PACKED MUFFLERS ARE BETTER, MAGNAFLOW, DYNOMAX, HOOKER AERO CHAMBER, SOME OF THE MEW CHERRY BOMBS. PACKED MUFFLERS TEND TO BE QUIET WHEN JUST CRUISING AND MORE NOTICABLE WHEN ON THE THROTLE

I wouldn't run true duals because you will get much more drone in the interior and no difference in flow. Your best option would be to get a single inlet dual outlet if you want the looks of duals. For sound I like Magnaflow and Corsa, never really liked Flowmasters.

Thanks for all of the replies everybody. My plan will be to be putting a si/do muffler on, but i'm not sure if I want to run duals straight out the back or 45 at the corners. Do any of you guys have pics of what you have done for some ideas.
Thanks
