I don't see a lot of other vehicle MFG with this issues?? I think Ford picked a bad choice of material or supplier to internaly coat their steel tanks ?? guess
In this instance i dont blame ford, not sure if they make the fuel tanks or an outside manufacture but the tank worked fine on the fuel that was used in 2004 when the truck was made. I dont know where to go with this one, i have a 04 F450 dump with 40 gallon rear mounted metal tank. I use this truck to practaclly run my business, it tows all my equipment and hauls material everyday. It started to run rough and bad starts/ blows blue smoke. etc. I changed both fuel filters and found gray flakes in both filters and now with good fuel pressure it runs like crap. So because the government changed fuel that is not compatiable with my tank i now have a bad fuel tank, containated fuel system, and most likely dropped a few fuel injectors causing my loss of power and bad starts.
Seems like the cheapest way out of all this would be to see if you can get an a/m poly tank to replace the metal tanks. Just a suggestion on my part.
I have not searched yet, but anyone know of any aftermarket 40 gal rear mount tanks, Would suspect same problem if replaced with factory ford tank, right???? or have they changed the tanks
Any chance of getting a tank that has failed and have it relined??
