I found a F250 which is made 8/94 and was wondering if it's OBD 2 or 1, or if you could let me know how I can tell the difference. Also I have a f150 made in 6/94 that is and OBD 1
the engine is a 351w I don't know about the tranny automatic I assume A40D. I called the dealership and asked all they could do was ask the mechanics and salespeople and they said they think it's OBD 2 but they can't be sure.....
I thought that OBD 2 was 95 and up which I know they start manufacturing those in august September or October of the preceding year.....
Please, your thoughts, I appreciate it a lot
thanks
I know "officially" OBDII was mandated for 96, but I guess it's possible Ford started early. All you have to do is look at the port where you read the codes if you can look at the vehicle. If the port is under the dash, it's going to be the OBDII. If it's under the hood it's going to be the EECIV.
I am also not sure if it's correct to call the early Fords OBDI. I know GM had a transition system that they called "OBDI", and then it progressed to OBDII, but I am not sure that's true with the Ford.
Your truck would be OBD-I.
The heavy F250 went to OBD-II in 1998.
The last ford truck to go OBD-II was the F53 in 2000 (Ford did not make a 1999 F53 or F59).
The F150 and light F250 plus California trucks went to OBD-II in 1996.
thank you guys so much you have no idea how much this helps and makes me happy. I will check under the dash and hood for a plug but I do not doubt that you guys know what you are talking a bout.
