What's up with the fifth wire? I did notice that it wasn't grouped with the rest of them under the hood. The only reason I found it under the hood, was because it was under the dash with the rest of them. So I knew there had to be another one under the hood.
check the resistance and continuity to make sure it's just a customer access wire like the rest of them. It could be something completely different. There should only be 4.
What colors are the 5 wires?
Where did you locate the last one under the hood?
Did you buy used?
Here is the deal. There are 5 wires coming out under the hood. All 5 of these wires had the factory plastic shrink on the ends, so all 5 had never been used. 4 wires are a thicker guage wire, they are red, blue, white, and black. The fifth wire looks light blue, or light grey with a black stripe on both sides, it is also a thinner guage wire. You can see all 5 wires in the photo, the thinner wire went straight down after it came out, while the other 4 went up. The thinner wire was wrapped in the factory tape down below, so it came from the factory this way. I know wires can become discolored over time under the hood because the white wire looks more yellow and the blue wire looks different also.
There are 5 wires under the dash coming out. Out of the 5 wires under the dash, only 1 had the factory plastic shrink. It was the thinner guage wire. On the inside it is light blue with red, or pink stripes on both sides. The other 4 thicker guage wires are, red, blue, white, and black. The thicker guage wires did not have the plastic shrink on them on the inside.
I used 3 of the thicker guage wires when I installed my aftermarket fog lights.
I have no plans on using the thinner wires for anything. I would like to know what they are. So, if anyone knows what the thin wires are for, please let me know. Here is a couple of pics.
Here you can see the 5 wires, the one going to the right is the one in question. The 2 above taped together are ground wires for something from the factory.
Here you can clearly see the smaller wire going off to the right with the factory plastic shrink.
Here is an inside pic. I have the wire in question in my fingertips. You can also see the red passthrough wire next to it. The 4 main passthrough wires did not have the factory plastic shrink on them inside the cab, but had it on them under the hood. The wire in question has the wrap on both ends.
So what I'm seeing is, Ford put thru wires in, without power or ground, right?
we have to hook up power, ground, switches, and accesories.
I thought I was reading in the link above that they were already connected to relays or PCM.
Wish I would have found them earlier...Hmmph

There is also an extra +12VDC Switched power wire available. It looks just like one of the free, taped off pass through wires, but its further down by the OBDC connection (or at least that's where it is on my 01).
