my 2001 f250 7.3 is lil wierd when i was in in 2wd and had air on (it was hot out) and to go up a steep gravel rd i would switch to 4wd and... the vents would change from normal a/c to windshield a/c evey time and then go back to normal a/c after few mins of back to 2wd very wierd....
any help would be nice thanks to alll.
Your hubs switch using vacuum, and so does the air distribution door. It's very typical to have leaks in the hubs, and with no vacuum, the door defaults to defrost.
wow good to know thanks. The problem is the frt hubs are manual, pretty sure the previous owner put manuals on it. Is it possible that when the were installed that th vacume line to the hub was not plugged up and how do i fix this?
thanks for help>
You can unplug this solenoid and it won't send vacuum to the front hubs. I do this when I want to use 4X4 low without engaging the front hubs to back up a heavy load.
Yes it is possible he didn't plug the lines. Just plug them at the spindles or up on the vacuum solenoid with a vacuum cap.
I removed and plugged the lines at the hubs. There's now a vacuum cap where the line used to come out to the hubs. See the pic - it's the cap above the brake line in the fender well.
thank you all for the info there is no cap so i will put one on there
how do i cleanly get rid of the rest of the hose that goes to the hub area?
thanks for the pics big help!!
funny thow yesterday it was lil damp and was spinnin tires at every light ,i wanted to pass so i put it in 4wd at next light and got more traction but never locked hubs...?
If you have disconnected the vacuum line and have manual hubs the only way to get it in 4X4 is to get out and lock in the front hubs manually and switch the dash switch to engage the transfer case
