Well today was nice so I went out and think I might have found the problem, and took some photos so I can show you guys. My guess is that this rubber sleeve fell down (my best guess anyways) so know there is no seal on this part. I have NO idea what any of these names, and I know that some of you may laugh at me for even attempting to fix this but I'm a senior in high school senior and I need a truck to drive. So anyways I"m asking for your guys help if you can tell me what this is and the solution to fix it would be. I'm waiting on my grandpa the mechanic to call back and give some advice but I though it wouldn't hurt to ask you guys for help too.
Looks like a tie rod end to me , has nothing to do with the leak. You have a seal that needs replacement at the top end where the steering shaft goes in or at the lower end where the steering arm is attached . Or the hose connections where they fasten in . Could just be loose but probably need to be replaced.
I just went back and read your other thread, it looks like everybody has allready gave about all the help they could think of . I should have read it before posting. It would have been better if you had just continued it than start a new one I think. There would have been less repeat information.
Then it must be at the bottom of the steering shaft then??, when I was having the wheel turned there was a lot of the steering fluid dripping down from the pitman arm and center link bolt... like almost gushing... Thanks for the help so far, feel’s nice to know that I’m not alone!
If all else fails then what kind of shop would I take this into??
sigh.
The box is most likely leaking from the end of the shaft. You can buy the seal but if the bushing is worn the whole box needs to be replaced. Replacing the box is not a bad idea as it is probably worn out. They cost about 140.00
