ps the thing between the seal and bearing is an oil slinger .. atleast on My 06

it has 4 tabs and looks like a prop lock washer for a boat

Yes the front end changed in 05 I think, way too modern for me lol.

Here it is sitting properly in the seal:
I made this exact tool (specs are in the tech folder) and it works beautifully. This sounds like you installed the outter seal backwards. I did the same thing, not paying attention to what I was doing, and ruined both new seals trying to get them back off after spending and hour and a half trying to figure out why the axels would'nt mount correctly.

As for the metal ring, some of the seals have them and others don't. I asked the guy at the Ford parts house why this was and he said it all depended on who made the part for Ford.

Well, that homemade tool works great.

I made one an it had both seals on in 5 minutes.
