My turn signal cam has never worked so I don't know the difference. In CA, using turn signals are optional anyway.

Gots to have working horns though.

However...

1971-1977 steering wheels are a direct swap.

1978-1986 are also a direct swap.

The same year econolines will also work.

Putting a 1978-1986 wheel on a 1971-1977 column will have issues. turn signal cancel cam wont work anymore is one. Grinding to make it fit is another. The horn brush wont seat in the wheel quite right. I don't recommend swapping them myself.
Funny - the '86 Bronco wheel I have sitting here will NOT go on my '74 or '79 column. Spines are WAY different if I remember right. It's been a while since i looked at it, but I remember wanting to use the wheel out of the '86 when I 1st parted it out and looked at it and it wouldn't swap. Since everybody is saying the cutoff for things working is '86 maybe the bronco was a late '86 and is more similar to an '87????

Correct, I knocked that flat spot out with a round file.

C3DZ3600A .. Black Three Spoke Steering Wheel / Obsolete-Reproduced by Dennis Carpenter.

Fits: 1961/66 F100/250 2WD / 1966 F100 4WD / 1967/70 F100/250-all / 1969/70 F350 / 1960/63 Falcon/Comet / 1966/73 Bronco.

Custom Cab's have a horn ring, Standard Cabs have a horn button. Bronco's all had a horn ring. Falcon/Comets came with either, depending on the model.

All: 1961/65 F100/250 4WD; 1961/68 F350/600; 1966 F250 4WD used a four spoke steering wheel-all with a horn button.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1971/77 F100/350 steering wheels are two spoke, use a vinyl horn pad/switch and are the same as 1974/77 Bronco & 1975/77 Econoline, except 1975/77 F100/350's & Econolines with Speed Control.

Regardless of what steponit claims, the steering wheel used with Speed Control on 1975/77 F100/350's and Econolines is different than the non Speed Control steering wheel.

D4TZ3600A .. Two Spoke Black Steering Wheel / Use without Speed Control / Fits: 1971/77 F100/350; 1974/77 Bronco; 1975/77 Econoline / Obsolete-Reproduced by Dennis Carpenter.

D5TZ3600A .. Two Spoke Black Steering Wheel / Use with Speed Control only / Fits: 1975/77 F100/350 & Econoline / Obsolete

And...D5TZ13341B .. Turn Signal Switch / Use with Speed Control only / Fits: 1975/77 F100/350 & Econoline / Obsolete

79 Bronco steering wheel on my 73 4x4

Here's the pic. It bolted on without any mods to the steering column's splines at the steering wheel. The turn signal cancel doesn't work but I may try to fix that in the future. I'm good for now.

I'd rather have a complete steering wheel than the cracked, split, and hornpad-less stocker that came with box of parts from the PO. My rig used to have a tiny 13-inch rice rocket steering wheel that is now in my nephew's autocrosser. Ever try to steer a 4x4 dent on 35s with manual steering using a tiny wheel? NOT FUN. An integral PS swap from the same donor Bronco took care of that issue.

Well if that went on that easy, I'll have to try the opposite and see if i get lucky and the 73 wheel will easily go on the 78 bronco...

I believe that the 73 wheel is bigger in diameter though...if you don't mind a bigger wheel on the bronco...go for it! Should fit just fine.

Yeah, I'd noticed the difference and thought it funny when i realized how many different ones I have... I like the bigger wheel in my 76 150 just fine, But I held the big one off the 73 in place in the bronc and I think it will feel too big... i guess it depends on what I'm used to in each truck...I have the smaller one in the 78 250, and its what I'm the most used to. The one in the bronc is great, but I'd swear its smaller yet than the 250. Need to re measure those two.

But anyway, I just need it in here on the bronc long enough to be able to do a new wood rim on the original one(has sections of padding missing), then put it back, maybe a couple weeks.

I should have pointed out that in 1974, Ford replaced:

D1TZ3600A Black; D1TZ3600B Blue; D1TZ3600C Green; D1TZ3600D Red steering wheels (16 1/2" diameter), original for 1971/73 F100/350's with the D4TZ3600A steering wheel for use as a service part replacement.

Parts catalog does not give the diameter of the D4TZ wheel. I think it's 16"

1978/79 F100/350, Bronco & Econoline with M/S: 16" diameter / With P/S: 15" diameter

Wow... they actually came in colors?
never heard of or seen that...just black ones.

I'll have to add finding a red wheel to my to-do list for future builds...

Wichita Auto Salvage in Wichita Falls Tx. has about a dozen or so steering columns from 74-79...many of them with tilt. It's a little secret that the 100,000 people that live here don't seem to know about.

I have a 1977 F150 steering wheel on my 1974 F100. It had cruise control and power steering so I grabbed it along with the complete cruise control setup. When I went to rebuild the colum I noticed that the steering wheel has an extra tab in it to attach the chruise control wires to along with an actual wire lead to plug them into, and of course the actual wiring harness had one extra wire in it. Other than that they were interchangeable and you would be able to get the cruise control steering wheel to work with the non cruise control column. Horn will hook up and everything. This is just for the pre '78 years though. I haven't looked into the later ones.
