Hi all
I just got back from my local Ford dealer and they informed me my Y pipe was cracking due to the fact that my truck has no EGR cooler to support it. They said it would cost anywhere from $900 to $1100 to fix due to the fact that they have to remove the cab again! Is there a way for me to fix this inexpensively without the removal of the cab??? The service mgr said something about using a solid Y pipe. Where do I get one these? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Pull the turbo and change the pipe yourself.I made a solid pipe to replace the y pipe after it busted the second time. You could try to fugg with it with the turbo on the truck but I think it is easier with it out of the way.
If your dealer has to lift the cab for an exhaust pipe, I would not set foot back into that dealership for anything. You have 2 actual pipes, one feeding the EGR and the other that bolts to the turbo. Not sure which one your dealership figured was cracked. 4 bolts from under the truck, roll the turbo out and ****** the pipes. Partsguyed would ship new pipes to your door.
Thanks for the input
I think I may try your approach to fixing the problem brickie. There are plenty of weld shops around my area that could probably do to my pipe what you did to yours.
Wow, your stealership is trying to put it in deep. Steer clear of them in the future!
Yeah no kidding! After hearing what the dealer told me my wife almost had me convinced, dare I say it, into buying a car
At least they didn't charge me to look at the darn thing!

I actually had my flex joint wrapped and welded with a piece of stainless. A little local shop did it for $50. You DO have to pull the turbo to get the y-pipe out NOT the cab. As previousy advised--RUN LIKE HELL from that dealership.
