We in north Texas have an ice storm this week. It sleets an inch or so, then freezes into a solid sheet. It is amusing (though sometimes sad) to watch the different kinds of drivers and their reactions. Many don't realize that driving skill doesn't mean a lot on ice - the road rules. Some believe that if they have a large SUV, they're OK - they're not, I've seen a couple wheels up. Some believe that if they have 4WD they will have no problems - I've watched several being pulled out of ditches. On the good side, I've seen several 4WD truckers assist other drivers out of bad situations. There were over 170 major accidents yesterday - mostly caused by too much speed (and the fact that most have no clue how to drive in these conditions). The sand trucks could not keep up and many freeway ramps are still closed. It is supposed to get above freezing Thursday and things should return to normal. I'm ready for Spring.

Same here in S. NJ! Our most tragic auto accidents are in there ice storms; sad thing is that this is a rural area and most bad accidents occur with solo or just 2 vehicles; it is strange that someone would be travelling fast on ice and hit another vehicle with no one else on the road. Our ambulance 911 phone rings constantly.
you would *think* in Minnesota people would know how to handle winter conditions..... the key word is *think*
one of the recent big storms we had in MN they closed off the Laffeyette Bridge, causing me to have to find an alternate route to my brother's house.
i dont know what the problem was.... i did 75 MPH the whole 30 miles, in 2 wheel drive, used 4x4 a few times to take off from dead stops.... then disengaged 4wd.
in one intersection- 694+94... FOUR suv's in the ditch.... ALL on their roofs. everyone of them had rolled. they all looked like yuppie "citieots" no surprise there.....
Yeah we got hit by a lot of snow in Oklahoma, problem is that with the freezing temps its just about 3 inches of ice in some places now. I have to admit that I have been suprised that I have only seen a few people in the ditches and most people have been driving really well. I have helped push a few people out but that was in parking lots where they couldn't do a lot about it.
