Leaking Diesel

My 04 Excursion is leaking diesel from the engine compartment pretty bad.
Any idea of why this could be?
I have gotten under the truck and it looks like the farthest point forward I see is right behind the bottom pully of the serpentiene belt all the way back to what looks like above the starter.
Any suggestions would be helpfull in checking this out before bringing to the dealer.
I believe my ICP is going bad (surging of and on) could that be the cause of the diesel leaking?

Can I get a couple suggestions on what to check since out of warrenty I don't want to be spending $5k on fixing this issue and having to rent a car due to out of warranty but does not even have 100k miles on it.

if you need more info I can go and look
thanks

Might not be a bad idea to first wash the engine with Simple Green, and then run the engine while you check for the leak with a good light.

Have you changed fuel filters recently? Might have developed a crack in the cap. Check these areas also.

Check the banjo bolts at the head, fuel would blow back along side the block to the starter area.

damn truck won't start now due to battery

geezeeee

So I was turning over letting truck prime noticed a hissing noise from to fuel filter area, tiny bubles out around the cap

also the fuel pump is spilling like mad from what it looks like

can a cloged top fuel filter be causing all of this

also where is the damn ICP that keeps giving me issues every now and then?

I hear the 04 can be in 2 places could I have an 05 model engine in my 04 truck

what a pita

As mentioned earlier, the cap is not sealed or it is cracked. The ICP will be located under the turbo on earlier years, right hand valve cover later years.

so got truck started
leaks seem to be coming from filter cap, fuel pump, some place close to fuel cap on top since it is not as excessive as you would think from fuel cap to make such a good leak 1 more place on the opposite side of fuel pump may just be over flow from pump

can all this be due to a clogged fuel filter even though truck still runs

and is what is the sensor sitting under the alternator near one of the turbo down tubes is that the ICP on the front left hand side when looking in from the bumper?
I found this thread and this should be my ICP then correct the picture the guy took looks like what I am talking about but my truck is an 04 excursion 6.0

Here is your ICP. Lower part of picture. Early 6.0L motors the ICP was on back of motor below turbo.(thus the second picture on the other thread) Late built 6.0L were moved to the passenger valve cover. It's one way to determine which a person has. Mainly 03-04 model year engines.

well went to ford had them diagnose it real quick
came to be a keyway O Ring
$206 labor charge and $10 part $233 fix including tax
what a shame......
Would have done it myself and just paid the $110 for diagnose and part
hopefully it is fixed will see
sprayed simple green under truck washed it down
time to monitor

anything special about changing the ICP I need to know about
Might as well do that, they wanted to charge me $500 to replace, can't figure that one out, maybe they think it is in the back not front

Unplug, remove, install new ICP, plug back in. Is yours on the valve cover?

keyway O ring from what I saw them doing had to do with I think the top side filter underside where all the lines run, somewhere in that area i didn't exactly see where but it was in that area

well all went to crap again
drove 4 miles back from dealer today all looked fine and sprayed down undercarriage and washed it off, then drove to work 4 miles all seemed fine no leaks on the ground, drove home 4 miles all hell breaks loose and diesel spilling out again, back to the dealer I guess.

My question to you all, can the ICP be causing the oring to blow out again or does that come into effect after going throught the secondary filter, and I changed my filter about 10k miles ago can that be clogged making to much pressure to blow this keyway oring?
the gasket they replced is part# 3C3Z*9C065*AA not sure where it goes or what it does but I believe it has blown again since it is the same place I am seeing the leaks from.

another day gonna be spent at the dealer, I am thinking of buying a new fuel filter set and installing it prior to having them change out the oring again.... any thoughts?
found this link for a discription I would have posted just the parts but can't get the picture to work

I think the "keyway" o-ring you're refering to is the o-ring on the fuel pressure regulator cover. 4 #27 torx screws and a fuel line (7/8" and 13/16" wrenchs to remove) hold the cover in place. Very easy fix but in a bad place because of the upper radiator hose and the CAC tube. Be aware that there is a spring and poppet valve that will come out when you remove the cover. It's normally easier to find a leak if you don't wash the area before the repair since fluid will create a track in the dirt/dust. With 10K on the fuel filters it definitely won't hurt to change them. With our fine diesel fuel supply there's no telling what kind of crap you can pickup. I've seen filters stop up in less than 2K miles. The ICP has nothing to do with a fuel leak.

FWIW--if you still have a fuel leak at the secondary fuel filter housing then IMHO it would be fair for you to pay for more parts/o-rings that you haven't already paid for but NOT the labor to fix it again. The ICP sensor in the front of the passenger valve cover is less than a minute to fix and can be done with an 8" crescent wrench. You don't have to do anything but unplug it, screw it out, and replace it, but they don't fail very often. IPR is a different story.
