OK,

Important question

Does the GPS have the ability to show altitude?
X-Y-Z position.

the literal answer is "yes, any 7-satellite GPS receiver has that ability". However, the nav software does not necessarily have to make use of that data

I *think* the "where am I" screen (or whatever it's called) might show altitude. I'll check in the morning

Click on the "i" button for Information and the default tab that comes up is Where am I. Look to the middle right portion of the screen and it shows altitude. It gives you a pretty good idea but is far from pinpoint accurate. The elevation where I park my truck at night varies by as much as 20 feet in the exact same location. This feature also provides northing and easting location.

Learn something new every day. That's great! This should go in the truck abilities thread. I bet there are others that weren't aware. Good stuff - thanks!

If you could see a history you would also see that you truck is "moving" around all night too.
