A while back a vacuum hose blew off the manifold tree (4 hoses total) on the top rear quadrant next to the brake booster. I could not find the hose nor could I find where the other end was connected to. The truck was idling terrible which is how I found the missing hose connection. I plugged it up and at least the truck is drivable.
But it has never been the same. The idle is still a bit rough and even when applying a small amount of throttle, it is sluggish. It gets better once it is above 1000-1500 RPM.
2nd problem: right about the same time that the vacuum hose disappeared, the transmission stopped shifting into high gear (overdrive). Since the shifting is controlled by the vac system could these be related? I wouldn't think that a tranny vac hose would be on the top manifold tree!
In any case, if anyone can offer some pearls of wisdom (or where to find a vacuum hose diagram) I would appreciate it.
Vacuum modulator. Often the problem of a hose blowing off is a result of the vacuum modulator leaking transmission fluid. This fluid softens the hoses and they fall off. If fluid is detected the modulator must be replaced. I believe one of the ports only has a cap. There is an emissions diagram near the radiator that indicates all the hoses. If all the hoses are there, these also suffer from leaking intake manifold gaskets. Both happening could be coincidence. Another source of fluid is gas from the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line. This leaking could also make the engine run poorly. Any reduction in engine performance reduces vacuum and causes shifting problems.
