I am sure this have been gone over, but in searching, I can't find it so bear with me. I removed the radiator and wanted to flush the whole system while the hole in the rad. was getting fixed. I removed the lower rad. hose, and a 3/8 brass plug from each block. There is still coolant directly under my thermostat. How do I get it all out? Thanks for replying
85 ford 6.9
There are block drain IIRC 9/16" wrench to remove them either side. Also the rear oil cooler/oil filter housing has a plug you can also remove. Once removed you can replace with pet***** to ease coolant changes in the future.
Im new to diesel as well and would like to flush the system on my 7.3 idi so that i know what coolant and sca is in it. can i just use the standard flush kit sold at the auto parts store? The kit provided a t that cuts into your inlet heater hose and is flushed with a garden hose.

Those kits a prone to failure!!! Just save the money and remove the heater hose and just use a garden hose with a nozzle on it to flush it.
That's what I did, the garden hose through the heater hose. I had the two block plugs out, I just didn't have the heater hose figured out yet. Thanks for the comments
do you guys think that the small amount of hose water is an issue or should it be flushed with demineralized/distilled water after the garden hose flush? I have well water here that has a lot of iron in it.
