I have a possible replacement AOD for my 84 F150 302 239k orig tranny but want to make sure it's the right one. My AOD has E3TP on the tag which I thought ID'd the output casing length and size, however I can find no referencce to this code. Only E0AP and F2TP for the short small bushing or E0TP and E0LP for the long caseing small bushing. F3LP for the larger bushing AOD.
The donor has E0AP from a 1990 LTD.
Anyone thoughts who knows more about these than I do?
I don't think it'll matter what it came out of, as long as the bellhousing pattern is the same, and the rear trans mount and linkage is the same. One thing you might need to look for is the ratios in both transmissions. I remember reading a thread on whether or not a car transmission would work in a truck, and I think there was mention that the car transmissions had higher ratios. Not entirely sure though.
Only thing that really matters is the case length. The later model the better. By 89 most updates to the case had been made. The ratios are pretty much the same until you get to the later 4R70W. If you can find an AOD out of a 92-93 truck/van that would be best as it had the large "A" OD servo and the 2" OD band on steel drums. Just measure the length and your set. The Lincoln is a long shaft like the trucks IIRC, you will have to swap over the manual lever and any external linkage from your trans.
edit: On a side note, consider taking care of the cheap insurance type items while you have it out, rear main seal, front and rear trans seal and new/reman convertor. Don't forget to flush your trans cooler as well.
