I looked but could not find the answer...my truck has two different caliper pins, one solid, one with a rubber sleeve at the end (see below), which one goes where? I thought I kept track of them but just need to make sure. Thank you.
Just had to read farther down in the procedure of putting the pins in.
The slide pin with the notch needs to be installed in the bore that will be at the top of the caliper (farthest from the ground) when the caliper is installed.
Sheesh, I was so focused on the sleeve I didn't see the notch. Thank you for setting me straight. This board is great! Thank you again.

Which one has the notch - rubber or solid? (Please say solid, or I just put mine in backwards!)
Solid! I had mine in right but the passenger side pin was stuck. It looked like the caliper grease might have expanded the rubber and/or I put too much on and it hydro locked. I replaced both side and now I really like the Hawk Pads. I had posted a time or two that I wasn't happy with the pads but looks like the caliper wasn't working correctly.
One of my rubber-sleeved pins was frozen solid. It took lots of PB Blaster, heat, and torque to break it loose. However, it cleaned up pretty well. From now on I'll be lubing my pins with every tire rotation - it's not really that much more work once the wheels are off.

Probably a good idea or at least check to make sure the caliper can slide. When I found mine I was in the process of greasing the main hub bearing so I was able to put the caliper brkt in the vice and carefully remove the stuck pin. I'm assuming the rubber piece acts as a damper. Thanks again everyone!
Once a year for a full cleaning and relube is plentifull. I have been lubing mine 2 times a year, and they could go the full year easy. I lube with change over from summer to winter tires with water crossings in summer a regularity.
Probably a good idea to at least check them that they still slide at every tire rotation.
FYI: My seals swelled up too...when I went to checkers's (now o'reilly's). The new ones don't have them any more...solid metal.
I beleive those are the earlier ones. If you read the link it says there are a few versions. My truck was built Jan 05 and had them, I suspect they were the originals. Not sure what the rubber sleeves help but there are there for a reason...anyone know for sure?
