I have an 07 F-350 (srw) that I think the carrier bearing is shot on. How big of a job is it to replace this bearing? Looks pretty straight forward except I'm not sure about how to remove and reinstall the bearing it self. Do you have to have it pressed on?
If it is like my 2001 yes it is pressed on. Before you pull your shafts mark the U joints for position so they go back exactly as removed, otherwise you could get a vibration worse than what you might have now.
I bought the truck used, it now has 174000. miles on it. there is a grinding noise from the rear of the truck so I thought rear wheel bearings, I replaced them. During that little job I found so much mud packed under the truck I power washed for 45 minutes. found the park brake backing plate completely rusted out and the shoes were rubbing the inside of the drum. The noise is still there so I figure go to the next bearing and try it. After work this evening I will crawl under and see how much play there is to try and confirm it really is that bearing.
Just had the carrier bearing replaced on my 2001 F-250. I considered doing it myself. I thought the following thread was good resource: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...nt-w-pics.html. I ended up taking it too a shop but would consider doing it myself next time.
