need help with rear cab mounts

you'd think I could remember how the cab mounts went... I only took them off 15 years ago...

so I heed some guidance...

here's what I've got

this is a picture of how Mid-50s catalog says they fit...

narrow part of the frame bracket up when bolted to the frame
rubber bumper goes in with the fat part at the top
the bracket goes in with the 'hump' up

right ?? I'm having a heck of a time getting it together... If I put the bolt in the frame mount as pictured the other end doesn't want to align with the holes in the cab...and vice versa..

how much clearance is needed between the bottom of the cab and the frame. My problem might be the cab is too close to the frame... it's only about 1.5" up from the frame rail (rear lip of the cab...

someone give me a little teaching ???

thanks
John

You have it the correct way. When I redid mine (because someone had installed the arms upside down), I bolted it to the frame loose, and then used a bottle jack to raise the other end into the cab mount. Hardest part was keeping the jack from slipping. Once I mastered that, it went really easy.
BTW, I reinstalled the original arms, the new ones look like they would be easier to jack up.

I used jack to pursuade the mounts as well; the 1 1/2" clearance seems to be about what I have.

Compressing the bumper is what makes it so tough. I took the bumper out to test fit, just to make sure it was aligned right - then put the bumper back in and went back after it. Between jacks and pry bars I managed to get them together. Might help to set the rubber out in the sun before trying to smash it in there.

John.....this is why I have 7 or more trucks at all times.
I suggest you buy a few more trucks ....lol......so all you have to do is look under the cab at the other trucks and see how the parts go on.....LOL lol

Jack up the center of your cab high enough to install mounts. 1-1 1/2" off the frame. Assemble the mount with the rubber bushing in place and the bolt thru the hole in the frame bracket. Slip the arm into the body mount area and install bolt. Swing the bracket up to the frame, adjust the heighth of the cab with the jack to line up the bracket with the holes in the frame. You will usually need a punch to line the bracket and holes up and will have to jack it up a little higher than it will actually sit to get the bracket lined up. Install the 3/8" bolts but don't completely tighten them until you get the otherside on. I have mounted MANY cabs and doing it this way makes it pretty easy.

This is an old thread I know, but my question is what do the mount rubbers do? Vibration dampening, side sway?
