performance upgrades wanted desperately
i am driving an 89 lariat 2wd at power everything and am wanting to add a lot of power...i'd like to be able to outrun z71's and stock gt mustang. it has a class 3 towing package and i don't want to change any of that so no trans or gear changes. i'd like the best bang for my buck and nothing thats gonna cause me more problems than it's worth as it is my only daily driver. i want to play and any and all ideas are greatly appreciated.

a z71... very easy.
Mustang. Also not that hard.
Just throw a 125 shot of nitrous on it

My thoughts
Wouldn't take much to beat a Z71-equipped truck in a straight line but a 'stang will be a little tougher.
I would think you might drop in a Ford Racing 521 ci big block and do some damage. 580 hp - 600ft/lbs (corrected) and add a 200 hp shot of nitrous on top of that. Or maybe that same mill, add some forged 8.0 - 1 pistons and an 8-71 blower.
Might need to switch to a built C6 and 4.10 LS gears, too. And some weight in the back/traction bars to hook it up. Maybe even a seat cover with anti-pucker characteristics, once you stand on that combo for the first time and go slithering all over the street, tires blazing.
Better bring a thick wallet if you plan to make a race truck out of one of these heavy beasts.
Or just buy a '11 Mustang GT and get it over with.

Jim, even if you did that the number of people(see NOOBS) that use the SEARCH function would be the same....NONE...Although it is a good thought.
