Hi guys.. I have a 88 e350 w/460 c-6 tranny cargo van i bought real cheap..of course it doesnt run hence so cheap. anyhew this where im at with her.
the guy put a new dizzy and module in it with new cap and rotor and he had enough..still no start.
I went up saturday first order of business was making sure i got fuel.. i put a new frame pump on it and it has super fuel flow.. however the fuel just keeps returning to the tank.
I unhooked the return line at the bell housing and held my thumb on it while cranking it over.. no start dry plugs.
I had a helper shoot fuel in the throttle body with a pepsi bottle with a pinhole in the cap and she fires up immediately. hmmmm
I have juice to all the injectors ..red wire
Heres my plan ( im hoping for tons of advice here)
i went to the junk yard and pulled a computer out of a 87 250 with 5.0 engine i selected that one cause it has the old 302 firing order that also is the same on the 460. it too was automatic. I dont need it run perfect i just wanna get her home 80 miles away.
the numbers on the computer are real close ..
the 460 puter is E7TF-12A650-BV1B
the 302 puter is E7TF-12A650-AT1A
i also pulled the brown relay and the green one to carry along. and i also snagged the fuel pressure valve
any extra advice or knowledge is appreciated!! thanks
Since the 460 has larger injectors it may not be as bad a mismatch as it first sounds, I would think it would get you home, especially if you try to stay in the lower throttle positions.
thanks thats all i wanna do is get her home and for sure if it does turn out to be the puter then i will order the right one in. the junk yard one only cost me 25.00
Engine firing order doesn't matter with the SD system as injectors are fired in batches. Your problem may be in the wiring between the TFI module on the distributor and the computer, but also check that the EEC is getting power and also pull the codes(if you can't get any response from the EEC when doing this it may indicate the EEC isn't powered up, so check fuses and relay). Do the fuel pumps run constantly when the key is on? They should only run for a second unless the key is in the cranking position or the engine started, so if they do run constantly with the engine off/key in run this points to a stuck fuel pump relay or a burned EEC.
yes the fuel pump in front runs all the time as the fella had it hot wired to fuse panel works with the switch. the pig tail is still under there and i have i the other end i swiped off a junkyard truck so im gonna rehook it this weekend. my guess is the relay stopped working so he hot wired it.
I am also taking a fuel pressure regulator along as well and the computer.
I also have the brown relay im gonna put on too.
I have juice to the injectors on the red wire now. im guessing they arent getting grounded by the computer.
any other ideas?/
