292 waterpump ?
the water pump is going out on my 292, so i called the parts store and they tell me there are more than one for this engine. they told me to take it off and bring it in but then the truck will be immobile until the new pump comes in, and then i gotta hope its the right one. does anyone know where a part # is or how i can tell which i have so i can order the part without taking it apart first. all i can see on the old pump is MADE IN AMERICA, you gotta love that, even if the pump is goin bad.

Well,
They're not "All the same" per se'
If you have a "High-mount" fan, you'll need the associated pump.
Some pumps had a 5/8" shaft and some had a 3/4" shaft/
I think all the truck (non high-mount) are 3/4".
There aren't any new ones around but there are rebuilts.
A1 Cardone has a rebuilt pump.
Any autoparts store that sells Cardone may be able to get this pump. More than likely, you'll have to have them rebuild yours.
If you want to rebuild your own pump, you can order a kit from Macs Auto Parts. (that's what I did)
GO to RockAuto Auto Parts and search for your associated pump.
You'll find that you may be able to buy one or they will give you an address to send it to for rebuild.

312 is correct, I learned the hard way. When rebuilding our 292 we bought a new water pump. It is pictured here with my son bolting things up. Notice how short the shaft is, it is also 5/8". None of the belts lined up, that is when I learned about the truck pump and the car pump. The truck pump has a 3/4" shaft and it is longer. The second picture is the best I can find showing the bigger and longer shaft.
