4.6 triton 140000 miles runs great have installed a k&n cold air intake since installion iv noticed a burping sound coming from intake at idle rpms run 1000 to 1100 but during burping sessions rpm will drop to about 800 quite embarassing at stops any help would be greatful
If you had no issue before the hardware was installed, you likely have an air leak from not seating the hoses/hardware fully.
Secondly, you may have issues of oil contamination of the mass air meter, later on, from the K/N element oil.
You really don't need the K/N systerm on a stock motor.
The 4.6 is only 262 cu/in and the larger 5.4 uses the same filter element flow capacity rateing.
No gain from using the K/N it but more noise.
If the motor is 04 or later, the K/N 'may' upset the A/F ratio and cause issues.
Good luck.
In fact, not only will there not really b a benefit, oil analysis shows filter like K&N let in more silicate particles - and probably more particles in general.
It might give you a tiny boost, but at the expense of motor life. Great for racing motors that get rebuilt often, but the 4.6L platform is tried and true enough that I want to see how far i can get out of my first factory motor build.
Personally, I know, now, that I would never buy a used vehicle that has a pre-installed K&N on it (unless I get a hell of a deal and turn it over to another buyer).
