Trying not to get stuck on the road, last week drove x-country to NJ. when we got there the truck "burped" a cpl of times, did not quite quit, but put in in neutral & kept it running, has since done it twice more, and once after putting in the spare CPS. Drove great all the way home.
In all instances when it happened, the truck was not pulling but decelerating/coasting, first time the cruise was on, thought that was the problem at first.
the "burping" actually feels a lot like starting off in third gear instead of first.
2001 7.3/Auto CC 4x4
any ideas? maybe Torque converter is not down shifting?? also, recently before this happened, I noticed the engine RPM's are higher than normal at idle after warmup, 900 vs usually 700

When you are decelerating/coasting your injectors are shutting down (normal) and the engine will seem to 'shut off'. The injectors are opened with oil pressure. When is the last time you changed your oil?
Do you have a code reader to read codes for this truck (standard OBDIIs will not work)?
Unplug the ICP (injection control pressure sensor) and see if it runs better. Is there oil leaking from the electrical plug of the ICP?
