Just got a 01 EX V-10. The prior owner had taken the Cat off, installed a big Magnaflow with a 4" exhaust pipe. Sounds cool when idling but its way too loud when accelerating under any type of load. I took it down to my local exhaust shop and they installed a resonator which quieted it a bit but its still too loud for me. The owner said he really didn't have any other suggestions other than to take it back to a stock style muffler.
I asked about the Flowmaster and he said that it would make it sound "different" but that i would still get the drone that I'm finding objectionable.
Is there any thing that I can do to try and keep some of the performance and a little bit of the roar while reducing the sound from what it is now without going back to stock?
Well, as long as its 4" which is just too big, you are going to have a deeper tone shift, which is going to make it louder inside. I would actually switch it back to 3". The cat is also a great muffler, many run with just the cat and no muffler or a glasspack and its still fairly tame.
