Question 2001 Escape Reliability

Are there any chronic problems with the 2001 Escapes? Daughter is looking at one and I am doubtful about buying the first model year of any vehicle. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

2001 Escape Reliability

I have a 2002, that I have had for a year now and the only problem I have had is that the back wipper doesn't always clean the window the best. Otherwise it has been great.

Ditto about the wiper.
Another gripe I have about our 2002 is that the "step bars" are not in a practical location for me. Too high to really use, and out far enough that I must really step over them. They catch a lot of road crud in the winter, and like to leave dirt smudge on the back of my pants leg.
I must say that winter performance traction wise has been exceptional. I used the 4 X 4 lock only twice, and that was only to see the difference in traction on ice, and in snow 17 inches deep.
Small difference really, but noticable.
Anti-lock brakes are noisy, but very effective.

Talking 2001 Escape Reliability

I have the 2001 and have had it since Sept of 2001. I haven't had one problem yet.....other than I get bored and put a 1" lift on it and threw some 32" tires underneath. I love my Escape, 9months pregnant and still jump into that thing and ready to go!!!

I have an 01 with 18K miles. So far it's been trouble free.

That's not always true of all Escapes, or any vehicle for that matter.

I got mine in feb 01 with 6 miles on it. I saw it come off the truck and said i want that yellow one! It had 3 miles when I went to see it. I just traded it in and got the 03 Ex EB. I gave that thing 35500 miles with no problems at all!!!!!!!! I drive hard and the Escape never skipped a beat. I replaced the tires with BF Goodrich long trails cause i dont trust firestone although the firestones did have better dry traction they sucked in the snow. I couldnt stop down hill in the snow but the BF Goodriches are a real nice choice for the escape.

The wife and I went for the chrome yellow (better name would be "hello yellow"). Ours is the No Boundaries with tinted windows.
I was looking around on the Internet, and there is one almost identical to ours...
It's the one with the red dice on the side, but without the tinted windows. I saw on another site (last year when we bought it and was looking to see what aftermarket stuff was available) a replacement for the black roof rack air dam where the dam would flip back revealing 4 off road lights. Can't seem to find that site now. That thing was cool. Locked forward it maintained the stock look. I think there was a lever or something inside to flip the lights without leaving the drivers seat, but it could have been driven by an electric motor too.

I had the yellow one also. I think the yellow shows all the lines in the escape. I painted some of the trim yellow to accent the outsides paint and give it a bit of caracter. The V6 is a peppy little thing too! It's not faster than the torus cause a co worker has one and we wanted to see if there was a difference.....lol but for an SUV the thing moves and handles well. I loved flooring it on the high way and feeling it down shift to 2nd and speed away.............................................. .
