OIL TYPE
10W-40 NAPA or Valvoline Hi-Miler oil and NAPA Gold Line filter (Wix) with changes religiously at 3K DIY in my driveway. Given my mileage and a slight knock upon start up I've begun using Lucas Oil Stabilizer which seems to tame that knock.
In another thread on the modular motors it was suggested tighter manufacturing tolerances somewhat dictated the 5W-30 oils would be sufficient for new or much lower mileage engines---no disputes from me on that at all. I'm a bit old school and can't help thinking regular changes even with the best grade of non-synthetic would be advisable since the longer interval oils would still become contaminated with blow-by fuel etc in the crankcase.
I'm about to add an engine pre-oiler to my van and will do the same once I install a new/rebuilt motor sometime in the next year. I know from experience this work wonders, reducing wear by 40-60% over the life of the engine.
Maybe check this forum archives for other oil issues----lots of great advice and experiences here for certain!
