parts interchangeable??

Hey all, I have a 1976 F-250 Highboy, 390 engine. I have a parts truck available to me its a 1978 F150 Custom 2X4. Would all the body parts from the 78 fit on my 76? I think the fenders, doors, etc. would but I don't know about the cab or radiator support? My cab mounts are rusty and theyre perfect on this other truck but I dont know if itll fit.
Thanks

The frame is narrower than the 78 so there is a difference in mounting of any frame related body mounts.

He's quite right. Some of the body parts are indeed interchangable, but the cab is not unless you have the capability of welding your current cab mounts in different spots.

As it turns out, all of the mounts for the body on the 73-77 are different from the 78-79. I'm not sure why this is, but it's just what I've been told.

Your doors and radiator should be interchangable, but I would take what I say with a grain of salt because I'm no professional. If you want anothers opinion ask the people I know:

First today
mikeo0o0o0
or MikeS29

They have all recently helped me out with my body part woes. As far as I'm concerned, what they say is more reliable than what I can help with.

The front half of the frame is the same width and everything should bolt up except for the bed. The rear cab mounts may be different but the cab should be stamped for either set of mounts. you just need to drill or cut out the other set if needed. The bed can be used but new holes will have to be drilled, and preferably sleeved, in the bed floor.

The rear section of the frame rails (behind the cab) is where the difference is.

1967/76 F250 4WD's & 1977 F250 4WD's assembled before serial number Y20,001 (all High Boys) have rear frame rails that are 33 1/2" apart.

1977 F250 4WD's from serial number Y20,001 (not High Boys) & 1978/79 F250 4WD's have rear frame rails 37 1/2" apart.

The only other truck to have the 33 1/2" rear frame rails are 1973/79 F350's on the 140" wheelbase.

All other 1973/79 F100/350's have 37 1/2" rear frame rails.

1973/79 F100/350: The hood, front fenders, doors, and tailgate are the same, only the emblems are different.

Inner fender aprons: 1973/79 4WD's use a different left side than 2WD's. The right side is the same for all.

1976/79's came with huge vinyl splash shields that fit between the inner aprons and the fenders.

The Styleside's quarter panels are the same 1973/76, ditto 1977/79 on the right side (except 1973/79 F350's on the 140" wheelbase).

1977/79 Styleside left quarter panels are different than 1973/76, because these trucks have fuel doors.

F350's on the 140" wheelbase: 1973/76 Super Camper Special / 1973/79 F350 Regular Cab Trailer Special / 1977/79 F350 Regular Cab Camper Special. Ford dropped "Super" from the name after 1976.

Some 1973/79 F100/350's came with Super Cooling radiators. The radiator support (and the fan shroud) are specific to this radiator because it has a larger opening radius.

1978/79's with rectangular headlamps have the area in the radiator support behind the lamps dished inwards, so these supports are different than 1973/77's and 1978/79's with round headlamps.

77 f250 body parts

I had just finished with a major renovation of my 77 ranger alt highboy (regular cab) and I got I to a ditch. The woke front end is wasted, both fenders, both doors, fender aprons, grille, etc. LMC has all the stuff I need but we all know how these after market parts for up. If I am reading this stuff correctly, the parts listed above are the same from 73 to 78, is this correct? While I am at it does anyone out there know where I could score the OR parts I need? I am in Nor. Cal. Thanks y'all buck

Where in Norcal?

I suggest doing a grand a tour of Pick N pull yards. The Stockton yard is a decent haunt.

Otherwise hit up the NorCal chapter and see what turns up.
