Adjustable Steering Slipping
I have a 2008 F-150 with 38K miles on it. The steering column moves up and down even when the lock is engaged. It feels as if its stipped. I was wandering if anyone else had experienced this and if so, how I may fix it. I have contacted the dealer that I bought it from but they stated that they wont even look at it unless I pay them a minimum 1-hour rate. I dont have to type what I think of that! So I'm hoping to be able to fix it myself. Please help
)
It's not stripped, as I believe this system works off of friction/compression as compared to "steps" or notches like in previous Fords.
I think I'll take Coskid's advise and call another dealer that may help me decifer if I can just replace the thing myself.
Thanks!!
I fixed it. I almost hate admit that it turned out to be such a simple thing too. And to honest I'm suprised that more owners of these trucks havnt had the same issure occur after seeing how easy it is for this to happen.
So, what it turned out to be was the whole mechanism just lossened up. I found that on the opposite side of the steering column there is a 10mm nut that tightens/loosens the whole assembly. I simply tighten the nut and BAM the whole thing works! Even though I feel stupid for not figuring it out sooner, I figure maybe this will help someone else that runs into the same issue
