sloppy steering

hi
i still have sloppy steering even tho i have replaced the tierod ends, center link, shocks, wheel brg.s and adjusted the steering box.
steering box provided some major improvement, but i want good as new steering or as close as i can get it...
will replacing the steering box fix this?
also wheels have been balanced.

ps
the t19 trans seems to be holding me back from modern freeway speeds...

I would delve a little deeper before throwing expensive parts at it. Have you replaced the pivot arm bushings and/or the balljoints?

draglink on the gear box?
checked the i beam bushings in the center?
is it play in the steering or does it just like to wonder around?
if it is just wondering have the alighnment checked and check into adding a steering stabilizer kit

also have you checked where the steering column connects to the gear box for play?don't remember if these trucks have rag joints or not but they do wear out eventually.

To test the steering gear, unlock the column with the key. turn the wheel to the middle.
Reach under the hood and turn the shaft going in to the box back and forth.
How much slop? is it in the box or farther down?
If you need a box, DO NOT get an A1 Cardone re-man. you are better keeping your money and looking in junk yards. do the test and find one with less slop.
The answer to the T19 problem ( I have it to ) Is a zf 5 speed out of a 87-97.
You have to make sure that you get one from a 4x4, and it must match the motor.
one from an IDI or 460 wont bolt up.

Good point, you should try to eliminate or determine where in the steering system it is.

i had the steering box tightened all the way, which resulted in
an extreme sensitivity.like if i moved the steering wheel to the left and to the right ( while driving )it reacted too much. but still a lot of play in the steering wheel...
so maybe it is the the rag joint
front end was alinged too.

Yes, it.
Dont put a slush box in.... I hate auto trucks.
But if you do, I would go for an E4OD.
I know nothing about the swap or when ford started using them.

If she wants to drive everything in the house, they she should learn to drive a stick.
