ABS light-no code
It's an 03 Explorer. ABS light has been on a while. Had it checked at auto zone, but there was no code. I'm thinking it's a speed sensor. Is there a way to find out for sure before I start buying parts?

There are scan tools that can access the ABS computer and pull codes. Most of the scanners at the parts stores will only access powertrain codes, and ABS codes do not fall under this category. You need a scan tool that specifically can access the ABS system. Some of the higher end ABS scan tools can also display real time the wheel speed sensor readings which would help confirm a code if it pertains to a speed sensor.

I had the ABS light on my wife's 02 explorer. Read the computer at O'rielly's and it said it could not read the front left wheel sensor (no code). I changed it out and the light was still on but I went back and used their computer again to clear the code/light and haven't seen the light on since. FYI, if I had bought the sensor by itself it would have been $175 but the counter person told me to by the whole front axle (which includes the sensor) for $140. I bought the whole thing but only changed the sensor.
