So changed my IPR on hpop and still no start, took out one of the plugs on the rail and cranked, oil came out,so there is some pressure,no gauge so don't know how much.Fuel bowl is filling up and shoots out the valve on side of regulator when i push with a screwdriver.
bought a new charger so batteries fully charged when i crank, but really only get maybe 7 good cranks before tach starts dropping off to zero and slow cranking
NO smoke whatsoever,NONE
Really stumped here,,,unhooked gpr and gave it ether,it fired off but just as long as it had ether.
If anyone could help please do,going crazy up here and snowed yesterday
With fuel and oil pressure it should start. It will take a long time to fire because pressure in the oil lines was lost and don't forget every time you pull the line on the heads to check oil coming out you lose pressure again. If that still doesn't work my guess is idm. Do you have anyone you can switch with?
no spare IDM.
Thing is it ran fine until i pulled the hpop, put back, got it started but broke off ICP sensor while messing around.Still had leaks so pulled again(hpop)and pulled acouple plugs, changed o-rings,Made sure check ball was in the pocket before installing IPR etc.NOW I am no start, crank, crank, crank,no start, crank,no smoke,,,then batteries start weakning and i have to stop.
How long does the priming take?Could my ICP be the problem?Got new one on the way .
Sorry I can't help but you have me nervous. I have a new IPR coming. How did you change it out? Do you drain the hpop resorivor before you pulled it? Anyway, if its at all like changing out the injectors, I had to crank forever to get mine running.
No old bird '65 i have a ICP on the way from kind gentleman Fordpride who frequents these forums.ICP got busted off at the sensor.I did change out the IPR though and no I just let the oil run down the valley to a bucket under the truck,,,crude but didn't like pulling entire resevoir every time i pulled the hpop, fuel bowl,y pipe.
Having to fill the resevoir before every crank session,,
Sorry OLDBIRD '65 I read your post wrong
To change the IPR I first pulled the y-pipe which is three clamps,I used screwdriver then I drain my fuel bowl, unscrew the cap then get comfortableon the truck ,get a long flathead screwdriver and disconnect the small hose down in the valley, off the pump i believe it is ,then disconnect the left hand hose above and then the skinny one at 2 o'clock that is closest to regulator. Then with a good extension and a 13 mm i go in and take the bolts out holding bowl down and disconnect braided lines with 5/8 open face i believe is the size. CAREful with the 13mm bolts they like to fall in the valley
Should be loose so I wiggle a bit and out it comes(MAKE sure you unplug IPR before yanking too hard,I also disconnected the 5 pin harness so i could take right out of the truck and get it into the basement shop
Now you can look in there and see the IPR and there is some special tool required or a deep socket required to get it out once you loosen the tin nut and take off the solenoid.
Or take the hpop right out by first taking small cover off in between resevroir and water pump,,,pretty tight spot but i roll up my sleeves and adjust the fan as needed to get in there with a 8 mm socket/short extension and then a driver/8mm to loosen off rest of the way now i stick a mirror inside to see the 18mm bolt/spacer holding gear onto hpop, takes a breaker bar i would use and grab the belt somewhere as required as if the bolt is tight it will spin the whole motor.
Gear is fine just sitting there but need to pull bolt and spacer out ,,,they won't go down to no mans land but kinda tricky arm manuveering i found to get it out.
Loosen off lines 18mm
10 mm with good extension to get off the bolts holding the hpop to its base, one closet to IPR is longer
Give a little twist /turn and it will come out once gear pops off pulling pump towards windshield and wiggling. From here you go into another topic all together concerning the hpop ,,,but the IPR should be easy to get out now
Is the HPOP reservoir staying full? You might need to crank, then crack the head plugs to vent the air, then top off res again. Sounds like you batteries may be weak too if they slow down in short order.
