Southbend SMF clutch issues

not sure what to think of this...

did i install it wrong? since i bought my car a couple of years ago i dont DD the truck anymore. i doubt i have more than about 40k miles since i installed it. i am looking for my receipt so i know when i put it in exactly.

Doesn't look like that would be an installation issue. That looks like a defective hub, but 40k miles then that happens? It's not a defect, not sure what would cause it other than just a weak hub from the get go.

Doesn't look like the buttons did to good either.

ok i looked back at my records. i installed the clutch on 6/3/07 and the mileage was 233,740. my mileage now is about 253,000 miles.

i just feel like after 20K miles it should be in better shape. i mean what happens after 50, 70 or even 100k miles?

i've got an email in to SBC with these pics so i will see what happens. gonna give them a call tom

Good luck with Peter and hopefully he helps you out on that clutch. That thing wasn't in good shape at all for only 20k miles!!!

i have to hand it to southbend. i talked to peter and without asking any questions he is replacing the clutch disk. he said that during that era the springs werent tempered properly and they wore out prematurely, which i can swallow bc that seems to be exactly what happened.

That one looks a bit extreem. but eh.
