my 1997 4.2 is having problems. computer says intake main runner control valves are stuck open. took it to the shop and had them both replaced. thirty minutes after picking up same error.
took back to shop and they say that the valves are ok.
truck will not idle smooth and gas mileage is not good.
any suggestions......
I have never worked on the Intake Manifold Runner Control on a 4.2L so I might not be much help. I do however have the manual here so I might be able to give you some ideas. If you could find out what trouble codes were retrieved from the truck's PCM that would be helpful.
The IMRC is controlled by the PCM which activates electrical solenoids that control the vacuum to the runner actuators. You could have either an electrical, vacuum or mechanical problem.
Hopefully if you can posts the trouble codes we can shed some more light on this.
