wanted to acetone my emblems as soon as im able. ive read the posts on such, but my question is about the red xlt letters. i want to save the red, but dont know if special care needs to be taken for this. cbsduty's page has a pic of what im talking about.
My red letters came right off. I taped a garbage bag around the emblem and used a old paint brush. It seems that the guys that used Q-tips had there red letters stay on. I started using Q-tips but I got impatient, because it was taking to long. With the paint brush it took longer to tape the area off then it did to remove the black around the f-250. The Q-tip is more gentle on the red letters and that's my guess why theirs stayed on.
I just did mine two weekends ago. The red "Lariat" portion stayed red. It looks to be a clear surface of some type over the red, so if the "XLT" looks similar it probably will be ok.
On edit: Sounds like the "XLT" and "Lariat" wording is put on different from Hoberts post. I used an acetone brush (stiff bristle mini paintbrush) and scrubbed away on mine.
Just make sure you seal the area off as well as you can. Acetone seeped under the tape I used and caused the glue to bond with the paint. Took a bit of polishing to fix that mistake, but the badges turned out sweet.
The red area on the Lariat Emblems WILL NOT come off.
The red area on the XLT emblems WILL come off.
You may want to try and put something over the XLT part of the emblem when doing the entire emblem. Then, take off the tape, etc. over the XLT part and use Q-tips.
I have an XLT and was able to save the red letters when I acetoned the emblem's. I used a Q-tip and didn't have any problems. Plus, with a Q-tip, you can control the amount of acetone being applied and won't have to mask off if you are careful. It took me about 20 Q-tips per emblem, and was about a 3 hour job or so, but I tend to really take my time on anything that involves my baby
Depends on if you want to hassle with it or not..I didn't pull my side emblems off when I did them but I did pull the one on my tailgate off to do it...looked too hard to tape off to me. I used some fishing line to get it off, worked good...
thanks for the link. Where do i get replacements that i can acetone. Apparently I have the early 99 model that can't be acetoned. Tried for 2 weekends. No dice. Just shiny black and a blemish from the acetone eating into it.

Dealer sells 'em for around 15-20 bucks each. Make sure you specify a later year...but then again... they're probably all out of the older ones anyhoo.

said he used fishing line to get his off. I'm assuming since I read there a holes underneath the badge I'll have to cut off the posts holding them to the truck. Is there a way to search on how to remove the F250 badges? Since I got those weak V10 thick plastic decals I'm gonna do those too. But I thought I read where they are stick on.
