Yes they can come out to your truck in most cases to test them without you pulling the batteries. I had both of mine go bad last month thankfully!! it didn't hurt my FICM.....weak batteries can damage it.
It was unreal how weak mine were and i never paid it any attention, until the new ones were in. My cranking is almost like supercharged now.
I stripped everything down on mine this past weekend and was going to do the STC but just couldn't see pulling everything out and that not be whats wrong with mine. I did find a o-ring on the little black box on the drivers side of the engine that was blew out. It had been leaking oil so i replaced it, not sure if it was causing my long crank times or just the diesel i had been buying but mine is doing fine now for about 3-4 wks. I change locations i was buying fuel and fixed the o-ring.
Another thing if you use the T6 synthetic that Rotella has you will notice really fast crank times and that running rough in the mornings you were talking about will almost completely clear up. If the FICM is acting up it may still run rough in the mornings. The T6 will help if you are experiencing injector stiction as well. I'm SOLD on it.
Yesterday I drove to a high flow truck stop for fuel, added 16 oz. of diesel kleen, and drained my water/fuel seperator. There was just a little water in there, not much. Started my truck this morning (coldest morning so far) and not even a puff of smoke. Could it really be that easy?
Diesel Kleen is some good stuff. Glad to hear its doing better! I don't know about you but i like it when its easy and cheap.....I have changed locations i have been getting diesel and haven't had problems so could be the diesel as well.
Local Shell around town messed up 5 guys trucks!! They did a fill up and made it about 2-3 miles and everyone's truck died.....turned out water and dirt in the fuel they had just purchased.....i guess the actual station probably didn't know what they were buying from the supplier?
