So does this seem like a problem with the remote start not waiting long enough for the glow plugs...or could this truck just have other issues?

Try this .. next time sit in it // wait for the glowplug light to go out and use the key to start it .. it will either be the same as what just happened and point to a dif problem or will point to the wait to start viper premature E-startulation
EDIT I didn't notice this was 3 pages long lol my browser brought me to this page first .. you did edit the video?? because that was about 7 seconds from command to start ??

That's not my truck. That's just a random video I found on YouTube.
There's a guy that replied to one of my threads in another forum that had to do with remote starts and he said that he installs them on diesels all the time and he said it's super easy to wire it into the WTS indicator on the truck. And he said that if an installer can't easily install a remote start on a diesel without causing any issues has no business working on 12V installs...it's that simple.
My viper remote start is on a timer. Somthing like 10-15 sec. I don't remeber for sure. I have never had any problems with that. I wouldn't want it tied into the WTS myself.
Ask him HOW he wires it (where he connects the wires), and what engines, the 7.3 may indeed have a WTS wire, I don't know.
The answer may determine how full of BS he his, if he is BS'ing at all.
I am the "other guy". I was indeed thinking of the 7.3 as most of the installs I do on superdutys have been on 7.3's. I actually have a timer sitting around here some where from the last 6.0 I did. The guy wanted the unit installed even though I didnt have a timer and he wasnt going to use it untill he brought it back for the timer to be installed... never saw him again....
Like previously stated in this thread, you could go directly to the cluster, but I wouldnt do it that way. You could also wire it into the glow plug circuit, but I also wouldnt do it that way as thats not how DEI or any of the other manufacturers do it. I guess I put my foot in my mouth on this one by not asking first if it was indeed a 7.3. I would have no problem testing wires with a multi-meter and finding a wire that powers the glow plugs and using a relay and a diode to isolate it to get a WTS input for the system, but I dont think I would take that route myself.
To the OP, dont let it bother you too much, just make sure they plan to put a timer on it. I believe its a dei 528t (may be wrong on that number). Basically when the installer pulls up the schematic it will say that the vehicle has no WTS light.
The problem with taking it off of the glow plug system itself it that the glow plugs will be powered for up to two minutes, depending on certain temp readings, while the WTS light will go out much sooner than that.

True.... Didnt think of that.... I always tend to go with what the remote start manufacturers recommend and they all say that a 6.0 has not WTS light wire.
I just had the Viper 5901 installed on my 06 and its not working very well. It will only turn over 3 times after waiting for quite some time with no success. If I turn it off with the remote and then try it again, it fires up after 2 or 3 cranks. I sat in it today and tried and the WTS light never came on but the truck turned on and waited about 15 seconds before it cranked 3 times and didnt start. Oh and it wont try again after an unsuccessful attempt like my old Viper did on my Cherokee. Does any of this sound normal?
