I recently purchased a 55 f100 with a spare 302 and auto trans. guy said it was a c6 and he gave me the "brain box" (his description) to go with it...question is....how can I tell if it's a c6 or AOD or what? What numbers should I look for and where? The 64 fairlane I restored had a fordomatic 2 speed, much different than what I have now....
what year is the motor and tranny? if you have the motor and tranny apart a c-6 has two shafts behind the torque converter and an aod will have 3 and an aod should say metric on the pan.
if you look at the pan of an aod i think they are square, and a c-6 the front and the two sides of the pan are straight and the back is not straight kinda hard to explain.
OK the eng/trans supposedly came out of an 87 ltd...engine and trans are together so no help by looking there.....was so excited to get the truck and extra motor/trans ..didn't pay much attention to it....I did get a spare gasket for the trans (why I don't know ) and it is square on 3 sides and the 4th side has an angle ...
is there a number somewhere on the trans that I could reference and if so ...where is it?
The pictures and descriptions are exactly what I needed. I have an AOD trans. Should be just perfect to go with the 302 and the 3.92 rear end. should give the old truck some legs.....
