Starters are the same but the AOD uses a unique flexplate(automatics don't use flywheels) so whatever you do don't bolt that c6 flexplate in there or the AOD will instantly die.

It'll have to be from or for a Crown Vic, the AOD was never factory installed behind a 351 in a truck.

I thought for sure I had an 89 f250 4x4 parts truck with 351 and aod...
Now I gotta go look when I get up to my old house during the holiday.

I've been trying to get a lot of my stuff from central Maine to the philly area, and everything is a fortune to ship. They want from 450-600 to haul my turbo ranger project 650 miles. Mostly because it don't run. The cheaper places expect things to be turn key, drive on.
I had been saving the 351/aod combo for a 77 shortbed truck, but again, 600$ to ship it and all my parts to pa. I can haul it myself but then I have no place to put a trailer.

Does it have an OD off button on the dash or shift lever? If so it's an E4OD, if not it's a C6.

Gauges and trim are missing.
There is no notch in trans pan for modulator so its not a c6.
From memory I was pretty sure the pan wasn't huge like the e4od in my 90 truck.
Ill try to remember to go look next holiday I'm up there... If there isn't a lot of snow still.

junkyard is telling me, as long as the 351 has a 4 bolt pattern flexplate from the C6, it'll work with the AOD

Yes a C6 flexplate will bolt in between a 351 and an AOD but it's still not compatible, it has more offset than the AOD flexplate and pushes the TC back into the trans oil pump which grinds parts and sends metal shaving throughout the trans.. rendering it useless very quickly. I have installed a 351 into an AOD truck if that means anything to you.
