Looking for anyones opinion. If you have a very low mileage truck, you fix the head gaskets, use good head bolts/studs, egr cooler is good and you don't modify for more hp, but plan to tow a camper about 50% of the time. I do not punish my trucks! Should I expect a mostly trouble free engine or is it just the luck of the draw?

I'm all over the maintenace side of things so I've got that covered. How often does the turbo need to be cleaned and what degree of experience is needed to tackle the project?

Make sure you have gauges and can monitor ECT/EOT or have the latest flash that keeps an eye on ECT/EOT spread and sets the wrench light if it exceeds 15 degrees differential. Otherwise, you can have undetected oil cooler plugging which eventually leads to EGR cooler failure due to restricted coolant flow to the EGR cooler. Then you have a potential host of more problems. Personnaly, I'd delete the EGR cooler while I was in there doing the HGs. Then you would have have close to a bullet proof motor IMO.

Cheezit, I talked to the serv mngr and ARP studs is what he will install for about $400. Also thanks to ljutic for the ECT/EOT info. That was simpe enough, I just wasn't sure if it had to do with exhaust temps.
