If your going with TTY's stick with stock, if studs go with ARP. A lot of money and labor to experiment. This also is an area where you don't want to cut corners to save a buck.
Actually have my truck in the shop. The service manager is saying if I have a head gasket problem that I need to go back in with aftermarket head bolts. That this would eliminate the stretching problem that occurs with the original equipment head bolts. I don't have any experience dealing with the aftermarket manufacturers & don't want to get stuck with any bad parts.
Go with the ARP's and be done with it. If you buy them from a dealer, it will be really high tho....they can be bought on the net for between $400-500 I believe.
EDIT: Just saw 'em on ebay for less than 450 shipped.
ARP is way to go for aftermarket head bolts or studs. They are well recognized in the automotive industry including gassers and diesels from race applications to standard use applications. Get ARPs and sleep well at night.
Thanks for the info. I keep seeing ARP as the most commonly recognized studs used here on the site, but didn't know if they had bolts also. Is there any reason to use studs over bolts?
call the guy back and ask him who is making bolts or if he ment studs. IMO the guy selling you the stuff is clueless. but remember the saleing stuff and the guy fixing stuff is normally 2 different people
It would definately be two different people. I will call and ask if he did mean studs, but he was basicly just recommending that I use aftermarket bolts to get away from the original equipment. He indicated by doing so I would most likely never have any more head gasket problems. I know he can't garuntee this, but I don't intend to modify with tuners or anything to increase hp, I'm just looking to make it as bullet proof as possible.
Yup, I think they are the best priced out there. Someone on this site told me about them when I was shopping. For some reason they are under the turbo section on their website, but they are there.
