47 panel

Im lookin at a 47 panel. Solid body. Lots of surface rust. Minor rust holes with a couple small dents. Motor is stuck. Its a flathead V8. Im new to the 40s. What kind of price do they bring? I was informed by owner that all the doors and rear fenders are panel only and are expensive therefore the price on the truck reflects this. Hes asking $1700. Any opinions.

Out east, except for the floor, we call that patina, not rust (rust is where you need imagination to figure out what it used to look like). Just jokin'

Since it appears faily complete and is a panel, you could probably get 1/3 to 1/2 that for rear doors, r. boards and r. fenders on the 'bay.

My opinion is price is maybe only a couple hundred over, if the floor is solid except where its not! (in pict)

Note that is a 3/4 or 1 ton panel (it has the full floating rear axle). Looks like a great truck to restore.

I am pretty sure 1/2 ton and 1 ton panels were different sizes. The 1 ton is bigger. Not much good for a street rod, but a very interesting restored truck. Why convert it to 1/2 ton?

I would agree it's too nice to mess with. Especially since I think I'm seeing 8 lug x 6.5" bolt circle wheels like would have been used on the earliest '48s. I've read that the '47 body was carried over into '48 on early production. Somebody correct me if you have documentation, but as I read the books the only bolt patterns available in '47 and before were the 5 lug x 10 1/4" used on half tons and 5 lug x 6 7/8" used on tonners. I don't find reference to a 3/4 ton in '47. The 8 lug x 6.5" pattern was first used in '48 on the F-2 and F-3 models. Since no 3/4 or tonner panels were made after '47, this could be a very rare beast. Stu
