I've looked at their VIN decoding info, it has errors and omissions since it was taken from the 1973/79 Ford truck parts catalog printed in August 1978.
You want the correct info, I have it. I've decoded over 800 VIN's and Warranty Plates for FTE members.
Well its better then the vin decoder on this websight!!!
Do you have any other websights that has better info? or should I just post my info for you???
I used that sight, just currious if there were any differences...
The only correct source is the 1973/79 light truck parts catalog, where most a the websites and this former FTE member...you posted a link to, got their info. This linked version is from the early edition, so...
It helps when one has the final printing of the catalog dated 10/1988. About the only way to find the 10/1988 version is on microfiche. It can still be ordered from Ford...for $110.00.
I bought it, cuz it's a better source than the earlier edition available on a CD from hipoparts.com (which I also have on microfiche).
All the FTE VIN decoders aren't worth two cents...where they got the info originally, I could only guess, but is was not from any Ford parts catalog.
IMO, FTE got the info from the "Red Book" a VIN and part number decoder that a coupla members of the Fabulous 50's Ford Club made up in the 1980's.
This POS has sooo many errors it's totally worthless, can be bought in book stores.
btw: Speaking of being correct, a 1973/79 VIN that begins with F26 decodes to: F250 4WD Regular/Crew Cab pickup / F28 is an F250 4WD Regular/Crew Cab Chassis & Cab.
1978/79: X26 is an F250 4WD Super Cab pickup / X28 is an F250 4WD Super Cab Chassis & Cab.
