I just posted a video of the play in my drive shaft on youtube. As for symptoms it loves to clunk when starting or in low gear at high rpms and I push the clutch in. When I put it into reverse she will also clunk if I suddenly let off the gas. No other symptoms. I was planning on greasing the spines but my driveshaft looks a little different than the example posted in the tech folder. Also, those bolts do not want to come out. Couldn't move it at all. Any help would be appreciated.
Truck is a 2005 f250 fx4 4wd lariat with 130,000 miles.
I am fairly new to this forum and this is my first post. I have been lurking a while and enjoying the collection of information here. Ironically, I greased my slip joint yesterday. I had trouble with the bolts. I think that they are a little damaged by time and gravel or whatever hits them over time. I used the PB Blaster spray and let them sit for a while. You also need to be able to have the bolts at 6 o'clock to really be able to get a socket on them. I also had almost that much play in my drive shaft and it concerned me. I did get the bolts out and the splines re-greased and it was completely "clunckless" this morning. It felt like a victory. I hope this helps you.

Welcome to FTE.
Good advise on your first post.

I greased the splines on my driveshaft without taking it out. Just cut off one of the clamps and pulled the boot back, then jammed wheel bearing grease into the splines. It did wonders!! What a huge difference - and it only took 20 mins and a fresh zip-tie to complete.
your slip yoke will cause a clunk when you take off.a torque shift (5r110w) has a hesitation between 1'st and reverse, learn to live with it and let it hook before you stomp the go pedal.mine does it allthe time and by waiting till it hooks,no problems in 187,000 miles.it's a querk of these trannys, not a defect.

Did you grease the splines in this way by hand or with a grease gun?
